Who we are

This website was founded by Egyptian writer and film-maker Mohamed Said Mahfouz. It began life as part of his PhD research at Royal Holloway, University of London.

Said started his professional career as a journalist at Al-Ahram newspaper in 1995; he then took part in the launch of the Nile T.V. channels in 1998. He worked as a television presenter and script-writer for the Nile Culture Channel, before moving on to present the well-known Scissors of Censorship show on Abu Dhabi T.V..

In 2002, Said decided to shift his focus to documentary film-making. He has since produced dozens of short documentary films, and has won several awards in the field. He moved to London to complete his post-graduate studies in 2006, obtaining a Master's degree with Distinction in 'Documentary by Practice' with the help of a scholarship from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. He has since moved on to doctoral studies in 'Film-Making and New Media' thanks to financial assistance from Royal Holloway. During his time in the UK, Said has also worked for the B.B.C. as a Radio and T.V. Presenter.
